Community development

Bible passage
"You shall love your neighbor as yourself." - Matthew 22:39

Description
In many countries, Mission Network ministries include health, economic and social development in response to the "whole person," often in partnership with other Christians, both local and international.

Philosophy
Jesus pursued a holistic ministry, tending to spiritual, emotional, physical and material needs of those seeking healing. In today's world where human suffering still takes many forms, Christian ministry must also tend to the full range of human need. In many places where the good news of Jesus Christ is not known, an effective way to "preach the gospel" is to work for community development and local empowerment.

Process
Development ministries are an important part of the gospel in all countries, but particularly important in countries where traditional mission and evangelism are discouraged or illegal. In some cases, Mennonite workers cooperate with hundreds of international Christian workers to operate large, integrated development programs. In other places, the Mission Network relates to local Mennonite churches, communities or programs, helping to build institutions that expand the local church's service throughout its region. Sometimes, the Mission Network utilizes long-term mission personnel to carry on such relationships, while in other situations provides short-term building teams, financial grants, or other more appropriate means.
