Bible passage
"Peter said, 'I have no silver or gold, but what I have I give you; in the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, stand up and walk.'" - Acts 3:6

Description
Mennonite ministries have long involved medical mission as a major component of holistic ministry. Today, medical involvement includes providing human and financial resources to mission hospitals, small-scale work with maternal-child health education, and formal nursing training.

Philosophy
The basis for working in health is compassion in the name and spirit of Christ. Jesus healed, so we are called to heal. Health ministries also give Mennonite workers and our partners unique access to communities that may never have had access to the Bible or connections with Christians. The relationships that develop between medical workers and patients can open a path for sharing God's reconciling message.

Process
Mission Network maintains relationships with many former mission hospitals now operated by indigenous church communities, some of which are Mennonite. Western health workers are often desired for long- or short-term assignments in such institutions. Medical professionals are in great demand in many nations today, as "brain drain" draws trained professionals to Western countries for higher salaries. Other workers combine small-scale medical ministries with other forms of evangelism: church planting, church liaison work, or community development.
