Mediation

Bible passage
"All this is from God, who reconciled us to himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation." - 2 Corinthians 5:18

Description
Mission workers and national partners are involved in mediation work that helps groups or individuals experiencing conflict forgive one another and come up with creative ways of solving problems without the use of force.

Philosophy
In recent years, Mennonites increasingly have taken up the practice of conflict mediation as a way to express their long-standing Christian commitment to peacemaking and, as it is increasingly called, conflict transformation or peacebuilding. While it is true that these methods owe much to the social sciences, they can be, and have been incorporated into a Christian expression of reconciliation, rooted in God's redemptive, reconciling action in Jesus Christ. As such, they are contemporary expressions of the historical Mennonite commitment to the way of peace and nonretaliation against enemies as central elements of the Christian gospel.

Process
Mission Network ministries and programs supported by grants in various countries include mediation services as a key part of their sharing gospel values in both church and secular settings. The range of services can be wide, from training and mediation services for Christian churches, to focus on schools and immigrant groups. Many partners conduct workshops on conflict transformation and restorative justice.
