Pastoral care

Bible passage
"I hope in the Lord Jesus to send Timothy to you soon, so that I may be cheered by news of you. I have no one like him who will be genuinely concerned for your welfare." - Philippians 2:19-20

Description
Persons who provide pastoral care nurture individuals and small groups of Christian believers in their faith walk, or comfort them in their pain and suffering.

Philosophy
Pastoral care is an activity that all members of the church are naturally involved in, giving and receiving support and encouragement from others in the faith family. Mission workers usually work in partnership with local congregations or other church institutions, which therefore means nearly continual pastoral care relationships with fellow believers and organizational staff.

Process
Pastoral care is the mutual responsibility that all church members have for one another. Leaders of such communities have special responsibility, and often special training, for coordinating and taking the lead in walking with people who are going through periods of special need. Mission workers who focus on church planting and inter-church liaison work are also engaged in pastoral care. Pastoral care may also be a part of professional ministries in institutions like hospitals, prisons and schools.
