Overview
The Latin American Council of Churches (CLAI) has as its principle objectives to promote the unity of the people of God, stimulate and support its members in the evangelistic task, and promote theological and pastoral dialogue around themes of mission and Christian testimony on the continent. CLAI is deeply interested in the indigenous churches, recognizing that it is among the indigenous people where evangelical churches are growing most rapidly, and that currently more than 50 percent of the indigenous people in Ecuador are evangelical.
History
In 1990, FEINE (Council of Indigenous Evangelical Peoples and Organizations of Ecuador) invited predecessor agency Mennonite Board of Missions to Ecuador to support indigenous churches in theological education. A formal partner relationship was established with CLAI for the purpose of obtaining visas. Mission Network personnel through the Ecuador Partnership also collaborate with CLAI in the production of materials, and teach occasional courses on such themes as conflict resolution, domestic violence, refugees and immigration.
