Way of Life Church/Hope Community Centre

Overview
Way of Life Church and Hope Community Centre are a Christian presence in Khayelitsha township, Cape Town. Khayelitsha is the second largest township in South Africa, struggling to overcome poverty, racism and economic depression engendered by the apartheid policies of the past and largely perpetuated by structures and biases of the present. The church and community center attempt to make differences in the lives of youth from that community. The church's strong message of the cross works to bring resurrection power into the lives of township residents. The center attempts to reach even more widely into the community to engender a future of hope where there has been a history of despair, black empowerment where people have been downtrodden, and economic emancipation where there has been economic depression.

History
The partnership between Way of Life/Hope Centre and Mennonite Mission Network was facilitated by Graham Cyster and Eastern Mennonite Missions, who turned their partnership over to Mission Network in the late 1990s. Since that time, there have been multiple exchange visits, consultations and project funding. At present, workers are exploring involvement in administration, HIV/AIDS ministry, and community organization.
