Opening DOORs to community
Discovering Opportunities for Outreach and Reflection, more commonly known as DOOR, is a faith-based network of urban service-learning programs that educate and challenge participants.

DOOR-Miami participants spend time working in the fields alongside migrant workers, engaging in recreational and learning activities with their children, interacting with homeless persons at local shelters by serving food or singing with them, sorting food and clothing at a redistribution center, or simply walking through various neighborhoods. In the process, participants get to hear local people’s stories, see the hardships they endure, and share the joys they experience.

 Activities for Sunday school

Try these different foods to experience some of the diverse flavors of Miami. These recipes come from DOOR staff, volunteers and board members who live in Miami.

You might consider making enough food to share with your congregation during a fellowship time on Sunday morning. Children can stand at tables and serve the food and share stories and information that they’ve learned about Miami. You can invite adults in your congregation to consider supporting the mission project in Miami as well.
