Together, sharing

Mission has often been understood and practiced as a current flowing only in a single direction: from north to south, from rich to poor, from the powerful to the powerless, from the “West to the rest.” This understanding has the effect of reducing mission to something that some people do to others, rather than a common sharing in God’s mission of love and reconciliation for the whole world.

As your agency, Mennonite Mission Network has been working at clarifying our identity—who are we and how will we engage in mission? For us mission means allowing ourselves to be transformed for the sake of the gospel and in relationship with our partners. As a missional church we are working together to engage in mission not in a church-centered way, but with a people- and life-centered commitment that is God-directed. The stories in this report describe partnership and sharing as essential to working in the midst of brokenness and pain for healing, transformation and the renewal of creation.
