Q: Why do I get so many publications from Mennonite
Mission Network in my church mailbox?
A: Have you checked to see who is sending the
publication? Mennonite Mission Network has one "flagship"
publication, Beyond Ourselves, which is published
four times a year and distributed freely to each Mennonite
household through church mailboxes. This is the only
general interest publication that supports the mission
program of the Mennonite Church USA as a whole. In
this time of change within our denomination, there
are a number of new periodicals being published, some
which occasionally contain information about Mennonite
Mission Network. While we supply stories and photos
to many publications, and occasionally support those
publications with our advertising, Mennonite Mission
Network sees Beyond Ourselves magazine as its
primary means of communicating through print with
each Mennonite Church USA participant.
Q: Is Our Faith published by Mennonite
Mission Network?
A: No. Our Faith is a quarterly every-household
publication that began among leaders in Virginia Mennonite
Conference, leaders who have a strong commitment to
seeing mission as a vital part of church life. Mennonite
Mission Network has provided feature articles, news
stories and photographs about its ministries and activities
to Our Faith. The Mission Network also has
advertised in the magazine.
Q: Are you part of Mennonite Press?
A: No. Mennonite Press, based in Newton, Kan.,
is a private business with a majority of its ownership
within the Mennonite Church USA structures. Still,
Mennonite Press prints a number of our periodicals,
most prominently Beyond Ourselves magazine.
Q: I'm currently not attending a Mennonite Church
USA congregation, but I'd still like to receive Beyond
Ourselves. Can I subscribe to the magazine?
A: Yes. We are happy to send a complimentary copy
to your home or business. To subscribe, E-mail:
.
Q: I have friends whom I think would enjoy Beyond
Ourselves and be interested in the ministry of
Mennonite Mission Network. Would you be willing to
add them to the free subscription list?
A: Sure. Follow the same instructions for individual
subscribers. To subscribe, E-mail:
.
Q: I'm not comfortable with receiving publications
that are in full color. I'd rather see dollars contributed
to Mennonite Mission Network support mission, rather
than slick, glossy publications. Why don't you publish
Beyond Ourselves in black-and-white or another
less-expensive manner?
A: Our use of digital technology allows us to
produce a fullcolor magazine for only an estimated
$400 more (for more than 60,000 copies) than if we
produced the magazine in black and white with one
additional color. Before the advent of this technology,
color separations might have added as much as an estimated
$5,000 for the cost of four-color printing. In addition
to simple costs, many Mennonites are not able to travel
to international locations to see the ministry taking
place. This allows them to get a better glimpse of
the ministry.
