Function:
From the stance of a learner and guest, build relationships as part of the The Mennonite Team in the Chaco working with indigenous communities. Provide pastoral accompaniment to indigenous leaders and communities via visitation, participation in activities and support to them as they seek to follow Christ in ways authentic to their own culture. Promote preservation of their languages and culture. Facilitate publications (for communication, spiritual growth, Bible translation); provide Bible studies and teaching.

Language:
Reasonable Spanish; willingness to learn indigenous languages

Position-Specific Qualifications:
Some upper-level Bible/theological training; anthropology and/or linguistics; pastoral heart; cross-cultural sensitivity; desire to work as a part of a multicultural team; willingness to travel (to visit indigenous communities); willingness to work ecumenically.

Mission Network international workers must be:

  • 21 years or older
  • A committed Christian and an active church member
  • Able to articulate a clear sense of call
  • Affirmed for service by a local church community
  • Able to learn and appreciate cultural norms different from their own
  • Able to relate well with local people, co-workers, sister agencies and ecumenical partners
  • Adaptable and resilient
