Community
The Madison unit started in 2009. The house is nestled on a narrow, densely populated strip of land known locally as the Isthmus, which lies between two lakes. Madison is the capital of Wisconsin and the second largest city in the state after Milwaukee. Downtown is a center of politics, music, food and culture. The unit house, a freestanding three-story with five bedrooms, is within easy walking distance of downtown and is also close to the University of Wisconsin-Madison. The city has a thriving bicycle transportation culture. Many VSers in Madison bike to their placements, and it's possible to ride the eight miles to Madison Mennonite Church mostly on dedicated bike paths. The unit is on main bus routes and near many members of the church community.

Church
Madison Mennonite Church is the sponsoring congregation for the Madison MVS unit. The MVS committee is made up of a handful of church members, and meets monthly to check in with the unit. Committee members are also available as mentors to provide individual care and support. Madison Mennonite has an attendance of around 100 people, and meets at 6 p.m. on Sunday evenings in a shared church building. The atmosphere is relatively informal. Potlucks happen most Sundays after the service and provide time for members of the community to fellowship together. Madison Mennonite Church is open and affirming (view the church's definition of this on their membership page). There is a strong focus on shared leadership, and there are plenty of opportunities to be active in the church. There's also an active young adult group and other interest-related fellowship groups that are open to all.

Service
Madison is a city filled with nonprofits dealing with every issue imaginable. The Madison MVS committee is committed to finding a placement that fits the interest of any potential MVSer.

Recent areas of placements include a food bank, IT work, work with wildlife, renewable energy, food security, and national trails.

Other options include working with housing issues, assisted living, and disability services.
