Service opportunities are numerous and can be combined.

After-School AssistantThe participant will help with different tasks that are needed to support the staff and children. Duties include preparing snack, performing administrative and organizational tasks, assisting children with homework, and relating with children. Clinic AssistantThe participant in this position will perform duties needed to support other staff and patients. They will work more behind-the-scenes making phone calls, carrying out clerical & administrative tasks, helping in the pharmacy, & scheduling appointments. Construction AssistantParticipant works with the local Habitat construction crews to build new affordable housing for qualifying people with low incomes. Some construction experience is helpful. Deconstruction AssistantParticipant works on a deconstruction team to salvage usable materials from homes slated for demolition, to be reused or sold at the ReUse Center. No previous construction experience is required.
Farm AssistantThe Inter-Faith Food Shuttle operates a small, sustainable, suburban farm to provide fresh produce to hungry people, in addition to “food rescue” and other services. Responsibilities include working with others to organize and maintain the food inventory and its distribution to the clients.
Intake AssistantThe Urban Ministries crisis intervention program provides basic services to people in crisis. Responsibilities include interviewing and assessing patients' needs for financial and food assistance. Medical AssistantThe Open Door Clinic provides medical care to homeless and lower income people. Responsibilities include working in the clinic pharmacy, assisting medical personnel, eligibility interviewing, keeping medical records, and scheduling appointments.
Pharmacy AssistantResponsibilities at the Open Door Clinic include working with the pharmacist, organizing the pharmacy, keeping medication inventory current, maintaining records, and providing medications to the clients. ReUse Center AssistantParticipant works at the Habitat warehouse recycling used construction materials for sale to the public. Responsibilities include unloading, stocking, and cutting lumber.
Sales AssociateResponsibilities include greeting customers, explaining the mission of fair trade, telling the stories of the products and the artisans, helping customers find the items they need, and checking out customers through the register. Teacher's AssistantThe assistant helps the teacher in the classroom, on the playground, and on field trips. Specific in-class tasks include setting up the room, reading to the children, supervising learning centers, leading circle time activities, and serving lunch. Teacher's AssistantThe participant would assist certified teachers with educational, play and other daily activities in the classroom, as well as on fun and educational field trips.
Technical AssistantThe participant would serve in all aspects of the organization’s work, including sorting donated computers, testing and diagnosing computer components, installing hardware and updating software, rearranging stock shelves, and cleaning the work space. |
