Team Size: The Alaska Youth Venture group is limited to six participants.
Service/Learning Component: Participants will serve with various agencies in Anchorage. You may work at a soup kitchen, a homeless shelter, a children's camp, or in housing rehabilitation. Prince of Peace Mennonite Church will be your host. You will learn about Alaskan Native cultures and peoples and about Alaska's plants, animals and geology.
The group will also travel outside of Anchorage, and recreational opportunities may include hiking, camping and kayaking.
Housing Facilities: You will stay in the Service Adventure house. Your team will be responsible for grocery shopping, and planning and preparing your meals together. You should also anticipate spending some nights sleeping in a tent during excursions. Accommodations outside of Anchorage will vary and may be rustic.
Travel to location: You are responsible for making your own travel arrangements to Anchorage. Plan to arrive on July 18 and leave on August 8. Your team leaders will make arrangements to meet you at the airport.
Costs: Trip costs are $895 and include meals, lodging, travel, and recreational activities from the time of your arrival in Anchorage to your departure.
Trip cost does not include travel to Anchorage, or personal spending money.
After acceptance into the Youth Venture program, you will be billed for the cost of the trip. Credit card payment can be arranged with our finance office.
