Service Opportunities:Volunteers work with Community Home Repair Projects of Arizona (CHRPA), a non-profit agency related to the local Mennonite church. This is a hands-on service organization that does all types of emergency home repair for low-income homeowners. Typical jobs would include replacement of gas or water lines, building a wheelchair ramp, patching a roof, replacing a faucet, repairing a furnace. Most clients are elderly or disabled, living on fixed income, or are single-parent households with young children. Volunteers work in teams of two or three, are provided with tools, trucks, and all materials for the jobs. Projects are carried out year-round so volunteers with various levels of skills are welcome and needed any time. Many other placements are available in Tucson as well, including a community food bank and other social service agencies.
Lodging: RV sites available and/or housing
can be arranged.
