Reclaiming Memorial or Remembrance Day with youth
by Gretchen Krause
The United States uses Memorial Day in May to commemorate the service of men and women who died while serving in the Armed Forces, and Canada observes a similar holiday, Remembrance Day, in November.
These holidays can sometimes feel awkward for Anabaptists, and they don’t always seem to fit with our pacifist traditions and beliefs.
But we can use these holidays as a chance to guide youth in remembering and honoring those Christians who have gone before us, especially those who have given their lives in service to God.
