MVS retreat

The 2018 MVS national retreat will be held in Chicago, Illinois, Oct. 28 - Nov. 1.

The national retreat is a time for you to get together with other MVSers to relax, have fun, worship, and spend some time reflecting on your MVS terms and assignments.

DOOR will be hosting us for this retreat, and we will be staying at the First Church of the Brethren in East Garfield Park (3560 W Congress Pkwy).

Please plan to arrive at the church at 6 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 28.  The church has several services on Sunday and would prefer that we arrive no earlier than 6pm, so if you have an earlier flight, you may need to hang out at the airport for a little while.  You will be using public transportation to travel from the airport to the church, so be sure to factor in that travel time.

The retreat ends after breakfast on Thursday, Nov. 1.  When booking flights, please choose a flight that departs no earlier than 12 p.m. to allow you time to get to the airport (the church is about an hour from Midway, and 90 minutes from O'Hare).

Once you have made your transportation arrangements, please register for retreat here:

 What to bring to retreat

Unit responsibilities

Cookies – Each unit should bring two dozen cookies (or any other kind of snack food you'd like to share).

Personal items

Casual clothes

Water bottle

Earplugs (for light sleepers)

Pen/pencil, notebook/paper (for notes)

Table games/cards (for late-night activities)

Musical instruments
Participants are invited to bring their musical instruments and share their musical gifts in worship and throughout the retreat.

Discussion/activity groups
Each day of the retreat will have some unscheduled free time. This is time for you to use in whatever way you like, whether that means taking a nap, heading out to explore the city, or hanging out and talking.

If there is a discussion or activity that you would like to lead, this is the perfect time to do it. Do you want to talk to other MVSers about the challenges of staying present at an emotionally demanding job? Would you like to organize an outing to explore a cool part of Chicago? Do you just want to find a few other people who will play Settlers of Catan with you? The solution is simple: Start a discussion/activity group! All you have to do is describe the discussion/activity that you want to lead, and we'll post it on the wall so people can sign up to participate.
