The Activities Coordinator works in accordance with the philosophy, policies, and practices of Christ House at all times. </p><p> <b><u>DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES</u></b><br> <u>The following description of responsibilities and performance expectations is intended to reflect major responsibilities of the position, but is not intended to describe minor duties or other responsibilities as may be assigned from time to time.</u> <ol> <li>MISSION AND VALUES <ul> <li>Demonstrates a commitment to the mission and values of the facility to preserve the dignity and confidentiality of every person.</li> <li>Recognizes the values and contributions of fellow employees as demonstrated through courteous behavior and respectful communications with all patients, co-workers and visitors.</li> </ul></li> <li>ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS <ul> <li>Plan and coordinate activities and events for Christ House patients. <ol> <li>Lead activities, work with volunteer activity leaders, choose movies to be shown in the building, and arrange for outside speakers. Encourage patient participation in Christ House activities. The Activities Coordinator maintains a record of attendance at activities. Activities should support medical, social, spiritual, and recovery needs.</li> </ol></li> <li>Be present in the building and available to play games (chess, checkers, Scrabble, ping-pong, etc.) and interact regularly with the patients. </li> <li>Participate in weekly Community Meetings for all patients. <ol> <li>Makes announcements of forthcoming activities at these meetings and contributes to meetings as requested.</li> </ol></li> <li>Coordinate monthly birthday parties in the dining room. <ol> <li>Set up and facilitate the parties</li> <li>Work with kitchen staff to make sure birthday cake is prepared in time.</li> </ol></li> <li>Assist with supervising and supporting patients' volunteer service in other areas as needed, including bulk mailings.</li> <li>Work closely with local part time volunteers involved in the patient activities program.</li> <li>Accompany and transport patients to medical and case management appointments as needed. </li> <li>Visit hospitalized patients as deemed appropriate.</li> <li>Solicit donations of tickets to local/regional events by placing phone-calls, writing letters, and reviewing the newspaper weekly for potential events. Write follow-up and thank you letters after all donated tickets and notify Development office of all gifts for generation of formal Christ House thank you letter. </li> <li>Drive the Christ House van. (as needed) <ol> <li>Drive the Christ House mini-van and 15 passenger van for patient appointments and activities outside of Christ House. Serve as a back-up driver for patient transportation when Christ House Driver is off.</li> </ol></li> <li>Assist with maintenance and cleaning of van.</li> <li>Alternate coverage of the clinical unit front desk on Saturdays from 7am-330pm with Case Management Assistant and Patient Support Assistant.</li> <li>Assist the Development Office <ol> <li>Provide physical assistance/supervision help with mailings.</li> <li>Assist with emails/Facebook, and creativity in communications.</li> <li>Attend outreach events as needed.</li> <li>Gather patient stories and photos for use in written and online communications.</li> </ol></li> <li>Perform other duties as requested.</li> </ul></li> <li>HEALTH AND SAFETY PRACTICES <ul> <li>Understands and promotes safety and infection control policies and procedures; performing jobs in a safe manner (i.e. universal precautions, hand washing, use of gloves etc. as needed)</li> <li>Understands role in emergency situations both medical (i.e. patient falls) and mental health emergencies (i.e. patient who presents a clear danger to himself or others).</li> <li>Responds to facility events (i.e. fire alarms/drills) per procedure.</li> </ul></li> <li>COMMITMENT TO TEAMWORK <ul> <li>Reports for work on time.</li> <li>Maintains a positive relationship with co-workers</li> <li>Willing to work a flexible schedule, including some evenings and weekends.</li> <li>Takes responsibility for self-improvement</li> <li>Attends and participates in staff meetings, in-services and retreats.</li> </ul></li> </ol> </p> <div class="ExternalClass97EB32E170794188B34965C23623BD3E"><p> <b><u>POSITION QUALIFICATIONS</u></b> <ol> <li>Education: Bachelors degree preferred.</li> <li>Licensure: Valid driver's license </li> <li>Experience: Experience planning and implementing activities preferred.</li> <li>Skills: As needed to perform essential functions of the job including: computer literacy, well-developed interpersonal skills</li> <li>Physical Demand: As needed to perform essential functions of the job; able to bend and lift up to 50 pounds.</li> </ol> </p> </div>
