Peace Action West is the region's largest peace and social justice lobby, working to abolish nuclear weapons, end international arms trafficking, and cut the military budget to allow investment in education, health care, and other community needs.

The Communications and Political Outreach Associate position will work on Peace Action West's communications and organizing strategies. The individual job responsibilities for the successful applicant will be tailored to the experience, skills, and goals of that person. The responsibilities below are some candidates for inclusion in that final job description.

Primary Responsibilities Include:

  • Create visual content (e.g. memes, image macros, and infographics) for Peace Action West's social networking efforts and wider communications efforts
  • Edit and/or create written content for Peace Action West's blog and website
  • Edit and/or create copy for email communications including grassroots lobbying action alerts and petitions targeting policymakers
  • Assist with media outreach in response to breaking news and on Peace Action West's priority issues

Political Outreach

  • Work to strengthen and activate a network of partners (such as faith, labor, etc) to build a strong, broad-based coalition to support PAW's foreign policy agenda.
  • Work to gain supporters for Peace Action West advocacy strategies as part of building a wider coalition.
  • Research and follow developments in assigned issue areas.

The ideal candidate will have some of the following qualifications:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience in or knowledge about graphic design principals
  • Experience in social networking, especially Facebook and Twitter
  • Experience with HTML or some webpage and blog design experience
  • Experience with image or photo editing software
  • Experience in grassroots activism and coalition political work
  • Experience in electoral organizing or legislative work
