The Abundant Harvest Cooperative is a network of over 150 small-scale gardeners, farmers, and chicken-raisers that sell their agricultural products through a communal table at weekly Farmers' Markets. Market customers are often vulnerable community members seeking healthy food and education about ways to use it. The Abundant Harvest Cooperative contributes to local food security and food justice by: <ul> <li>Offering backyard gardeners and small farmers an opportunity to sell locally-grown produce, eggs, nuts, honey, and dry goods at a shared Farmers' Market table.</li> <li>Promoting community health through geographically accessible and culturally appropriate spaces to purchase naturally grown produce.</li> <li>Promoting access to fresh, quality food by people of all economic classes, by accepting Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits and participating in the payment instruments provided by the Arizona Farmers' Market Nutrition Program (AZFMNP) and Women, Infants, and Children (WIC).</li> <li>Serving as a business incubator for local producers by minimizing cost risks associated with marketing and sales outlets.</li> <li>Contributing to food security by supporting local farms and producers, keeping food dollars in the local economy, and creating consistent options for affordable nutritious food in urban areas.</li> </ul> </p><p> <b>Duties and Responsibilities:</b> <ul> <li>Assist with the on-site coordination of Abundant Harvest Cooperative produce drop-off, interfacing with low-income growers.</li> <li>Assist with produce education and sales at CFB Farmers' Markets, interfacing with diverse and economically disadvantaged community members.</li> <li>Assist with educational events and demonstrations at weekly CFB Farmers' Markets.</li> <li>Support targeted outreach and education efforts to low-income community members, promoting access to community-grown foods with public assistance funds: Arizona Farmers' Market Nutrition Program (AZFMNP) checks; Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) checks, and Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP, or food stamps).</li> <li>Collaborate with program staff to provide new small growers with orientation and ongoing technical training on how to harvest, prepare, and present produce for market.</li> <li>Support knowledge sharing in the Abundant Harvest Cooperative by assisting lead resource growers to coordinate educational events about organic gardening and farming.</li> <li>Assist with training volunteers in the Abundant Harvest Cooperative network, so that they can represent small growers and the healthy produce items to diverse customers.</li> <li>Assist in developing educational materials for Farmers' Market customers, including information about food preparation, nutrition, and seasonality.</li> <li>Work collaboratively with the Farmers' Market team to accomplish program goals.</li> </ul> </p><div class="ExternalClass40E77DC6B2044E539E22323D11BBCFDF"><p> <b>Qualifications:</b><br> <ul> <li>Bilingual - Spanish/English (preferred)</li> <li>Ability to work effectively and respectfully with people of diverse social and economic backgrounds</li> <li>Experience with organic agriculture and/or sustainable food systems</li> <li>Self-starter, with the ability to work collaboratively</li> <li>Excellent organizational skills</li> <li>Excellent verbal and written communication skills</li> <li>Experience in Word, Excel, Office, and internet-based communications</li> <li>A good driving record and a current valid Arizona driver's license (required)</li> </ul> </p><p> <b>Physical Requirements:</b> <ul> <li>Ability to lift up to 40 pounds comfortably and repeatedly.</li> <li>Ability to work outside during all seasons</li> </ul> </p></div>
