SOOP Baltimore States/533824/SOOP BaltimoreSOOP BaltimoreReservoir Hill House of Peace (RHHP) is ministry of North Baltimore Mennonite Church (NBMC) and provides housing for young professionals who intentionally work for or volunteer with Baltimore organizations committed to positive change. RHHP also houses young Brethren Voluntary Service (BVS) volunteers and asylum seekers who are clients of the Asylum Seekers Housing Network (ASHN), which is also a ministry of NBMC. ASHN encourages all RHHP residents to assist with the asylum seekers - English conversations, navigating the city, driving skills, and other resettlement skills. This would be a great opportunity for SOOPers. Other volunteer opportunities include: urban farming, maintenance, and in placements with local non-profit organizations. The house is a historic building with many steps. A car is useful but not necessary. Public transportation is convenient. RHHP housing is communal with shared bathrooms, kitchen, dining, and living rooms. There is a private, spacious bedroom available for SOOP workers. Up to three people may be sharing a bathroom. We enjoy cooking and tasting each other's food but do not formally cook together. Engaging in the community and building relationships is a rich experience. Volunteers are responsible for food and approximately $150/month utilities.
