Function: To lead and foster organizational faithful witness to the gospel of Jesus Christ by casting a vision, guiding innovative change, directing administrative functions, influencing cross-divisional teamwork, and representing the organization in collaborative relationships in order to fulfill its mission. 

Location: Elkhart, Indiana


  • Accountable to Mennonite Mission Network board of directors
  • Supervises: Executive Cabinet, Executive Office assistant
  • Serves as a member of the Mennonite Church USA Governance Council under the leadership of the Executive Board

    Professional skills and qualifications
  • Commitment to Christ, grounded in Anabaptist understandings of Christian faith as expressed in the foundational documents of Mennonite Church USA.
  • A vibrant Christian life nurtured through relationships of accountability and the practice of spiritual disciplines.
  • Demonstrated commitment to God's reconciling mission in the world.
  • Strong organizational abilities, including planning, delegating, program development, task facilitation, insightful and deliberate decision making.
  • Executive leadership skills conducted with integrity, initiative and transparency.
  • Demonstrated capacity and willingness for fundraising.
  • Ability to initiate and lead sustainable change through a shared vision.
  • Strong communication skills with public speaking ability.
  • Experience connecting and engaging with diverse intercultural and international constituents and partners.
  • Ability to forge effective, productive and trusting relationships, and to develop, motivate and nurture collaboration in those relationships.
  • Willingness to travel and represent Mennonite Mission Network in a variety of settings.
  • Advanced degree or experiential equivalent (including cross-cultural missionary experience) preferred.
  • Actively participates in a congregation belonging to Mennonite Church USA, or willing to do so.


    General responsibilities

    1. Organization mission, vision and strategy
  • Cast and convey a vision of Mennonite Mission Network's strategic future.
  • Work with board and staff to ensure that the mission is fulfilled through programs, strategic planning, and constituency/partner connections.
  • Prioritize and lead initiatives of intercultural advancement, anti-racist action, and cultural competency.


    2. Financial performance and viability
  • Lead staff to develop resources for the financial health of the organization.
  • Practice prudent fiscal management by operating within the budget, ensuring maximum resource utilization, and maintaining the organization in a strong financial position.
  • Advance Mennonite Mission Network's mission with constituency, and raise or develop the resources necessary to support its vision.
  • Identify and address internal and external obstacles to Mennonite Mission Network's ability to fulfill its mission.


    3. Board governance
  • Work with the board of directors in order to fulfill the organizational mission.
  • Communicate effectively with the board and provide, in a timely and accurate manner, all information necessary for the board to function properly and to make informed decisions.
  • Comply with board policy.


    4. Organization management
  • Foster a positive and healthy work environment that creates a culture of transparency, empowerment and engagement.
  • Recruit and develop a team of competent, qualified senior leaders to manage key organizational functions.
  • Oversee the resources and programs that lead, mobilize and equip the church to participate in holistic witness.
  • Oversee the development of resources that support high functioning operations.
  • Represent or designate competent representation for the organization in matters and agreements required on its behalf, and ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
