Finance Assistant – Payroll and Benefits

Division:        Mission Network Services

Department:  Finance

Function:     To provide financial and benefit related services for Mennonite Mission Network in the areas described below.  This position will cross train to cover other finance functions when necessary.

FTE:             1.0 Exempt


Supervised by/reports to: Senior Executive for Finance

Work teams/role:        Finance team

Cross-functional work/project teams as necessary to enhance organizational effectiveness


  1. Manage and prepare staff payroll and the necessary reports using HRIS/payroll software (currently Paycor).
  2. Assist with preparation of payroll for overseas mission workers and service program participants.
  1. Manage state and federal payroll tax registrations and fillings, W-2's and Form 1095 filings in conjunction with HRIS/payroll software.
  2. Manage employee benefits in collaboration with the HR Coordinator.
  3. Cross train to process contributions and miscellaneous receipts. 
  4. Manage on-line contribution systems (currently Vanco and PayPal).
  5. Reconcile contribution postings in databases (currently Financial Edge and Raiser's Edge) monthly.
  6. Complete monthly bank reconciliations for assigned accounts.
  7. Manage cash transfers between bank accounts.
  8. Manage corporate state registration filings.
  9. Assist in managing expense reporting (Expensify) and corporate credit card systems.
  10. Prepare and manage information for the annual Workmen's Compensation Audit.
  11. Assist in preparation of documents necessary for the annual audit.
  12. Participate in departmental and other organization meetings as appropriate.

  1. Two-year business-related degree or equivalent experience in a finance office.
  2. Experience with benefits management and payroll processing
  3. Understanding of and practical experience applying basic accounting concepts and principles
  4. Proven ability to use Microsoft Word and Excel.
  5. Experience entering transactions and producing financial reports in an accounting system.
  6. Ability to maintain confidential information.
  7. Able to work independently, with initiative, decisiveness and good judgment.
  8. Accurate and quick with details.
  9. Sensitive, compassionate and positive; good relationship skills.
  10. Ability to stimulate teamwork among persons in multiple office locations and departments with diverse needs.
