"In the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent by God to a town in Galilee called Nazareth …" Luke 1:26 (NRSVUE)
When I had been married just a few months, my husband and I received God's call to pastor at our church. I was 26 years old, and my husband was 31. I was afraid. I felt very small and doubted whether I had enough knowledge about the word of the Lord, and of what being a pastor involves. I told myself that there were other couples with more preparation who could take on this important role, and that, maybe, we were not the people to do this. However, we decided to trust and believe that God would be there to help us. More than 10 years have passed since then, and God, who called us, has faithfully kept the promise to be with us and has not abandoned us.
Would we respond to God's call as Mary did?
Mary received the call of God in Luke (above). Here, we see that Mary was chosen from among many other women who lived at that time. It is beautiful to see how God calls each of us as children to fulfill God's purpose for our lives.
The angel called Mary "favored one." That is what we are when we receive God's call. Mary was afraid of this important call, but when she heard the purpose, Mary said, "Here am I, the servant of the Lord; let it be with me according to your word." (Luke 1:38, NRSVUE). For a youth, like Mary, this process was not easy, but she knew that God would help her, and her faith gave her the courage to face what was coming. Just as God helped Mary, God will help each of us, when we obey and heed God's call. Let us take the example of Mary and prepare ourselves with humility, trust, and a willingness to respond as she did.
Let us pray:
Thank you, Lord, for calling us to be your daughters and for never forsaking us!

"A los seis meses, Dios mandó al ángel Gabriel a un pueblo de Galilea llamado Nazaret…" Lucas 1:26 (DHH)
Cuando apenas tenía unos meses de casada, tuvimos el llamado de Dios para pastorear nuestra iglesia, yo tenía 26 años y mi esposo 31; sentí temor, me sentía pequeñita sin mayor conocimiento de la palabra del Señor y de lo que significa un pastorado, me decía a mí misma que había otras parejas con más preparación para asumir este cargo tan importante y tal vez nosotros no éramos los indicados, pero decidimos confiar y creer que Dios estaría para ayudarnos, han pasado más de diez años y la promesa de no desampararnos que Dios hace a su llamado siempre ha sido fiel.
¿Responderíamos al llamado de Dios, como María lo hizo? María recibe el llamado de Dios: versos 27 y 28 de Lucas 1, acá vemos que María fue escogida de entre tantas otras mujeres que seguramente había en ese tiempo, es hermoso ver cómo de entre tanta gente Dios nos llama para ser sus hijas y cumplir con su propósito, así como el ángel le dijo: favorecida, eso es lo que somos nosotras cuando recibimos el llamado de Dios. María sintió temor ante este llamado tan importante, pero al escuchar el propósito, María dijo: He aquí la sierva del Señor, hágase conmigo conforme a tu palabra según el verso 38. Para una jovencita como María no fue fácil este proceso, pero ella sabía que Dios la ayudaría, su fe le dio el valor de afrontar lo que se venía. Dios es el mismo y así como ayudó a María lo hará con cada una de nosotras cuando le obedecemos y atendemos su llamado, tomemos el ejemplo de María y armémonos de humildad, confianza y disposición para responder como ella lo hizo.
Oremos:
¡Gracias Señor, porque nos llamaste a ser hijas tuyas y porque nunca nos desamparas!

Tienen tres hijos, Samuel, Mateo y Caleb, y una hija Daniela.
