In the heart of Ecuador, FEINE Consejo de Pueblos y Organizaciones Indigenas Evangélicos del Ecuador (Council of Indigenous Evangelical Peoples & Organizations) began the Training School for Evangelical Leaders of Ecuador (EFLEE) as a new initiative to support regional and national church leaders.

Through this program, amidst the growing demand for peace and reconciliation in the region, Mission Network, partnering with FEINE, gives peacebuilding workshops that are a vital initiative aimed to equip leaders with the skills and knowledge to foster peace within their communities.

Another workshop in the series, held June 21 and 22, was a gathering of dedicated individuals committed to building a more peaceful society. The central theme, "Tools for Building Peace," encompassed essential techniques and principles for promoting peace and resolving conflicts in various communities.

Three presenters led the sessions, each bringing unique expertise and perspectives:

  • Mission Network’s Training and Resource Specialist Mauricio Chenlo, with extensive experience in conflict mediation and community leadership, shared invaluable insights.
  • Mission Network Ecuador Partnership Co-coordinator Peter Wigginton introduced innovative methodologies from an international viewpoint.
  • Silvia Guamán, a community leader with profound knowledge in the practical application of peace principles in local contexts, provided hands-on guidance.

The workshop utilized Herramientas para la construcción de la paz (Tools for peacebuilding), a collaborative publication which presents theological and biblical foundations for peace and offers practical tools for conflict resolution.

The workshop brought together 43 grassroots leaders from different provinces, including Guayas, Pichincha and Chimborazo. They engaged in lively discussions, posed insightful questions, and shared their personal experiences, enriching the learning experience.

The interactive workshop included group dynamics, team discussions, and case studies, allowing participants to apply their newfound knowledge practically. The expert facilitators in conflict resolution and Christian theology guided these activities, offering continuous feedback and support.

Logistics were meticulously planned to ensure a seamless experience for all attendees. Some participants stayed overnight at the workshop facilities, which allowed them to engage fully without interruptions.

As the workshop concluded, the participants left with a renewed sense of purpose and a toolkit of peace-building techniques. They returned to their communities, ready to implement what they had learned and to promote harmony and understanding.

The "Tools for Building Peace" workshop in Quito not only provided valuable knowledge but had also fostered a sense of unity and commitment among participants. Most returned, along with new participants, for a follow-up workshop July 26-27
