 Partner overview

Evangelical Trust Association of North India (ETANI) is an organization that handles property-related legal and governmental matters for the churches. The Mission Network relates closely to ETANI as we discern how to expend endowment funds for scholarships to seminary students nominated by the (Mennonite) member church conferences. A variety of issues also arise regarding properties that ETANI administers on behalf of the churches, and for which Mission Network is consulted. The 1970s saw a major transition for most Christian missions in India, with agencies required to turn over ownership of properties to local ownership or face confiscation. Mennonites (and many other missions) sensed that the local churches would be best served by lodging the legal ownership of most properties with independent trustees. Mennonites cooperated with other churches in forming the Evangelical Trust Association of North India. ETANI has handled most property-related legal and governmental matters for the churches since that time. Several seminary scholarship funds have also been administered by ETANI. ETANI governance is by representatives of the member church conferences, but the trust and the conferences seek dialogue with Mission Network to together discern how properties could best be utilized, and how scholarships should be allocated.
