Chris Scott

Facilitator for Emerging Faith Communities

I began with Mennonite Mission Network in 2025, stepping into the role of Facilitator for Emerging Faith Communities. Before that, I spent thirty years planting and pastoring churches, most recently helping to launch the exchange, a scrappy, Spirit-led, justice-centered Mennonite church in Winchester, Virginia.

I believe the Gospel still changes everything, and that the church, at its best, should be weird, welcoming, and wildly rooted in Jesus. I’m drawn to the holy tension between deep tradition and bold innovation. Church planting, for me, isn’t about reproducing what’s been done. It’s about joining what God is already doing in unexpected places. Quite often doing it with unlikely people.

In my role, I get to connect with dreamers and builders. Those taking risks. I walk with folks imagining and creating new ways of being the church. I’m especially excited to walk alongside mentors and planters as they listen for the Spirit, wrestle with call, and do the slow, sacred work of forming community.

I have a BA in Bible and Religion from Eastern Mennonite University, my MDiv from Eastern Mennonite Seminary and a Doctor of Ministry in Church Planting through Asbury Theological Seminary. I live at the top of Virginia with my wife, who’s an artist and a high school art teacher, our two fierce daughters, a whole collection of animals, and drink too much coffee. When I’m not on Zoom, you can usually find me running long distances and dreaming up weird new ideas for the church.
