500 years of radicalism
by Marisa Schmucker
This past year, Mennonite Mission Network joined Anabaptists worldwide to commemorate 500 years of Anabaptism. It was an important time of reflecting on Anabaptist history and the pivotal role mission has played in shaping Anabaptist theology, spread, and survival. Today, the legacy endures through the ongoing commitment of organizations, like Mission Network, congregations and partners around the globe, to share Jesus’ liberating salvation through teaching, social justice, peacebuilding, health ministries and community service.
Sharing the good news is a communal calling — participating together in God’s transformative work in the world. Mission Network weaves a tapestry of faith, service and justice, embodying the Anabaptist vision of peace and mutual care for one another. Through this shared effort, we empower individuals and communities to be the Gospel in tangible ways.
At the heart of our international work is our commitment to walk alongside local communities, uplifting their leadership rather than imposing external solutions. In Latin America, we prioritize uplifting Indigenous and women leaders, theological education, peacebuilding and community development.
Across Africa and Europe, we engage in building leadership and offering hospitality, while seeking justice and peace. In Asia, we emphasize holistic mission, including peacebuilding training and cross-cultural relationships that strengthen local churches.
Here, in North America, we support emerging and established Mennonite congregations with resources, training and speakers. We also engage in community outreach through programs like Mennonite Voluntary Service (MVS), Service Adventure and Service Opportunities with Our Partners (SOOP) in urban settings.
None of this would be possible without you. Our mission flows from the broader church’s calling, amplified through our partnership with conferences, congregations, schools and other agencies. Together, we are more effective and far-reaching.
It is truly a joy and an honor for us to be able to serve in this way and partner with each of you!
In gratitude,
