MVS Ministries
Rooted in the spirit of Jesus, MVS invites people from a variety of backgrounds and ages to walk with people who are disadvantaged and suffering from injustice, participate in issues and activities of a local neighborhood and faith community, live simply in a shared household where relationships can be affirmed and nurtured and serve as an extension of a local congregation. MVS may also occasionally develop assignments in response to an individual's unique gifts, interests and objectives. Check the Service Opportunities listing for detailed assignment information.

MVS Deadline
MVS placements are still available but due to heightened interest and the economic climate of non-profit organizations, competition for the available placements has increased. We encourage applicants to send their applications in as soon as possible. Complete an online application, or print and mail a PDF application (Adobe Reader required).

MVS History
Started in 1944, Mennonite Voluntary Service is the oldest continuing voluntary service program in Mennonite circles. Thousands of Mennonites and increasingly people from other denominations have served people who are marginalized in America over the past five decades.MVS reached its height during the U.S. military draft of the 1950s and 1960s because of the increased demand for alternative service. Today, MVS provides placement for men and women, recent college graduates and retirees, as well as some families.

MVS Feedback
"I am convinced now, even more than I was before, about how important social justice is—about how much people matter. And I want my life to reflect those beliefs." — Heather Ross, Tucson MVS unit
