Purpose
East Bay Sanctuary Covenant’s legal, social, and advocacy programs address the many challenges that immigrants face. Together, we help to create a pathway to citizenship and more compassionate immigration policies.
Responsibilities
EBSC provides many free and low-cost legal services for immigrants, and a fellow at EBSC will work on these types of cases.
- Affirmative asylum: This type of asylum is available only to people who are already in the U.S. and are afraid to go back to their home country.
- Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program (DACA): EBSC helps with the initial, renewal, and advance parole applications, as well as with complex cases involving criminal arrests and convictions.
- Green card (permanent resident card): After winning an asylum case, EBSC can help to renew a Green Card.
- Work permit (employment authorization): For existing EBSC clients only.
- U.S. citizenship (naturalization)
- Unaccompanied minors: EBSC helps persons under 18 (when they arrived in the U.S. without a parent) apply for asylum or another status to help them stay in the U.S. legally.
