Dr. Martin Marty’s name has become synonymous with Christian history and scholarship. He wrote the well-known “Memo” column in The Christian Century for over 50 years, has written 50 books and over 5,000 articles, speaks across the country, and is today professor emeritus at the University of Chicago Divinity School.
Paul Toews, director of the Center for Mennonite Brethren Studies, Fresno, Calif., has called Marty “the chronicler of all things religious.” Marty once weighed all of the press releases that came to him from various denominations and guess who won: Mennonite church agencies, weighing in with more pounds per member than any other denomination.
Marty is the guest this week on Shaping Families radio program where he focuses on the more personal side of his life – his first wife’s battle with cancer, raising his own and foster children, and his deep commitment to taking time for family.
Shaping Families radio program airs each weekend on 15 local radio stations and online at www.ShapingFamilies.com. Also featured at the website is a weekly blog by host Burton Buller, a weekly recipe from Shaping Families staff and contributors, a study guide useable by small groups and Sunday school classes and many additional resources.
