NEWTON, Kan. (Mennonite Mission Network) – In the context of Mennonite Mission Network’s board of directors meetings June 7-9, board members and staff celebrated the current ministry in Africa in a reception at Shalom Mennonite Church in Newton, Kan.

More than 100 attendees participated in the reception organized with Africa Inter-Mennonite Mission. On Sunday morning, board members worshiped in 20 churches. They also engaged regional church leaders in conversation about how to relate more meaningfully with members and congregations in Western District and South Central conferences.

Mission Network Executive Director Stanley Green noted that Mission Network is moving toward “an important missiological shift – from being primarily a sending agency that deploys North American personnel, to a networking agency that engages with others and builds capacity among our [international] partners by empowering [them] to be engaged in mission in their contexts.”

At the March 2014 board meeting, the board of directors affirmed this shift by re-appointing Green to another four-year term. He has served as the executive director of Mission Network since its inception thirteen years ago. Before that, he was the president of Mennonite Board of Missions since 1993.

“We really appreciate all of the gifts that Stanley brings,” said Madeline Maldonado, the chair of Mennonite Mission Network’s board of directors. “He brings his rich heritage, outstanding pastoral gifts, an in-depth knowledge and understanding of mission, and a strong commitment to Christ, God’s creation and the church.”The next Mission Network board meeting is scheduled for this fall in Kalona, Iowa.
