Most adults spend a number of years seeing to the care of an aging parent. What kinds of care options are available and what is right for you or your parents?
In October, Shaping Families begins a five-part series on aging. Stella Henry is the first guest in the series and is author of The Eldercare Handbook. She reports that the average North American will spend 18 years caring for a dependent parent, and that the question is not if, but when. She stresses the importance of getting the whole family involved in looking at options from the beginning.
Henry appeared earlier in the Third Way Media TV documentary, Embracing Aging, which aired on ABC-TV and Hallmark Channel.
Shaping Families “My turn” speaker Harvey Yoder also shares his personal experience caring for his father in the last days of his life.
Shaping Families radio program airs each weekend on 17 local radio stations and online at www.ShapingFamilies.com. Also featured at the website is a weekly blog by host Burton Buller, a weekly recipe from Shaping Families staff and contributors, a study guide for small groups and Sunday school classes and many additional resources. Shaping Families is produced by Third Way Media through Mennonite Mission Network.
