Dr. Stanley Hauerwas, Rowe Professor of Theological Ethics at Duke Divinity School, Durham, N.C., is the guest interview on Shaping Families radio program this week.

Earlier this year, Dr. Hauerwas’s memoir, Hannah’s Child: A Theologian’s Memoir, was published (Erdmans Publishing). The book details his faith and familial upbringing as well as his sad and difficult first marriage to a woman with bipolar illness. Shaping Families focuses on both of these topics in an exclusive interview.

Hauerwas was named “Best Theologian in America” by Time magazine in 2001. He was the first American theologian in 40 years to deliver the prestigious Gifford Lectures at the University of St. Andrews in Scotland.

Hauerwas, who came to know Mennonites through the work of John Howard Yoder and at University of Notre Dame, is a frequent speaker in Mennonite/Anabaptist circles, and was the subject of the major article “For and Against Hauerwas Against the Mennonites” by Peter Dula in the July 2010 Mennonite Quarterly Review . Shaping Families producer Melodie Davis interviewed Hauerwas when he spoke at the Virginia Mennonite Conference assembly this summer in Raleigh, N.C. He also appeared in an earlier video from Third Way Media, The Healing River.

The Shaping Families radio program airs each weekend on 18 local stations and online at www.ShapingFamilies.com. Also featured at the website is a weekly blog by host Burton Buller, a weekly recipe from Shaping Families staff and contributors, a study guide for small groups and Sunday school classes, and many additional resources.  Shaping Families is produced by Third Way Media through Mennonite Mission Network.
