Latin America: Uplifting Indigenous and women leaders

Mission Network partners with churches and communities across Latin America to foster church planting, leadership development, peacebuilding, and community empowerment. Our approach emphasizes collaboration, uplifting local leadership, and nurturing Anabaptist values like community, nonviolence, and compassion.

We also highly value regional initiatives across Latin America and are deeply involved with the Movimiento de Mujeres Anabautistas haciendo Teología desde América Latina (Movement of Anabaptist Women doing Theology from Latin America – MTAL) and Comunidad de Instituciones Teológicas Anabautistas (CITA). In all we do, we emphasize equitable partnerships and local leadership. Peacebuilding workshops, support for vulnerable communities, and focus on education reflect our commitment to God’s reconciling love.

Here’s a snapshot of our impact:

Argentina

Since 1917, Mission Network has supported the Iglesia Evangélica Menonita Argentina (IEMA) with leadership training, camp ministries, and church planting, particularly among indigenous communities in the Chaco region. We partner in the Argentine Chaco with a family from IEMA sent by Iglesia Menonita de Bragado. They serve with Indigenous churches and ministries, continuing the long-term Mennonite Team work with the use of Scriptures in Indigenous languages and in educational ministries.

Bolivia

Emerging from Mennonite Central Committee’s work in the 1970s, Mission Network supports the Mennonite Church in Bolivia (IEMB) with leadership development, Christian education, and retreats for children and youth, fostering vibrant urban and rural congregations.

Colombia

Mission Network supports Iglesia Cristiana Menonita de Colombia (Colombia Mennonite Church – IMCOL) ministries in Colombia and Peru and also partners with IMCOL and Central Plains Mennonite Conference in neighboring Ecuador and Venezuela. Online courses from their seminary make theological education available beyond their borders. IMCOL’s school and church in La Mesa welcome workers who support English and other ministries.

Ecuador

The partnership with the Colombia Mennonite Church and Central Plains Mennonite Conference works with Ecuadorian Anabaptist and Indigenous partners in church development, theological education and peacemaking. Children are included in multiple educational ministries. The Quito church serves many refugees arriving in Ecuador, and this outreach also contributes to the diversity of congregation.

Guatemala

Mission Network collaborates with SEMILLA, a regional Anabaptist seminary in Guatemala City, to provide theological education and online learning through CITA. We also support educational ministries of the Q’eqchi’ (also spelled Kekchi) Mennonite Church in Alta Verpaz, including the Q’eqchi’ Bezaleel Mennonite Educational Center and scholarships for women Bible teachers studying at the Q’eqchi’ Bible Institute.

Mexico

Mission Network has a long-term relationship with the Conferencia de Iglesias Evangélicas Anabautistas Menonitas de México (CIEAMM). In recent years, we have been most involved in theological education, as they were one of the partners that initiated CITA and some of the administration is based out of Mexico.

Peru

In Iquitos, Mission Network partners with Iglesia Cristiana Menonita del Perú. Vibrant ministries with children, including worship, music, art, discipleship and food empower youth to lead and have contributed to the formation of churches.

Venezuela

Amid political and economic challenges, Mission Network, together with the Colombia Mennonite Church and Central Plains Conference, supports the Asociación Civil Red de Misiones Menonita de Venezuela (Venezuela Mennonite churches) promoting church development, compassionate ministries, theological education and peacemaking.
