In this update, Sibonokuhle Ncube, Regional Co-director for Africa and Europe, brings us a timely reminder of the sacred work happening among people on the move.
Around the world, millions leave behind homes, communities, and often everything familiar, fleeing violence, conflict, persecution, or unbearable hardship in search of safety and a chance to rebuild. In the midst of these journeys, faithful partners of Mission Network are quietly and courageously reflecting the love of Christ.
We are joining the holy work of welcoming the stranger, standing alongside the vulnerable, and offering practical hope in places where it is most needed.
Stories of welcome in action
- A French-speaking Mennonite congregation in Johannesburg opens its doors wide to immigrant families from Africa’s Great Lakes region — providing not only worship but also friendship, guidance, and real help navigating life in a new country.
- The Key Ministry International Church in Pietermaritzburg walks alongside undocumented immigrants, offering support, advocacy, and dignity to people who too often live in the shadows of fear and exclusion.
- At Maria Skobtsova House in Calais, France and other European settings, partners create networks of safety and care — echoing the courage we read about in the book of Esther, where one person’s faithfulness makes protection possible for an entire community at risk.
These ministries show us that migration is never merely a policy debate or a statistic. It is first and foremost a human story — one that calls followers of Jesus to respond with justice, peace, compassion, and concrete acts of love.
This is not abstract mission. It is neighbors helping neighbors, churches becoming places of refuge, and ordinary believers living out the radical hospitality Jesus modeled and commanded.
