What’s the impact of Service Adventure for a host community?

Service Adventure, a flagship service program of Mission Network, offers young adults ages 17-20 a 10-month gap-year experience blending intentional community living, hands-on service, and faith exploration.

While much of the program’s spotlight falls on the personal growth of participants — who live together in a unit house, serve at local nonprofits, and engage with supporting congregations — the ripple effects extend deeply into the host communities.

Each Service Adventure unit is intentionally woven into the fabric of a local neighborhood, forging connections with a sponsoring Mennonite church and a network of nonprofit partners. This embedded approach doesn’t just place volunteers; it creates a symbiotic relationship where the community receives fresh energy, practical support, and enduring bonds like

  • Boosting nonprofit operations through these dedicated volunteers who enable centers to do more.
  • Energizing local churches with an influx of energy for revitalizing youth ministries and intergenerational events.
  • A leadership pipeline as participants return as skilled professionals to their home communities or choose to stay in their new communities.
